Atom’s Insight and Intelligence team harness Data Science and Data Engineering to unlock the full potential of our data assets. They deliver actionable insights through management information, exploratory analysis, and predictive models, driving revenue growth through data-driven pricing strategies and product optimization. We empower operational efficiency by augmenting internal decision-making processes, ensuring regulatory compliance, as well as safeguarding our customers with intelligent fraud detection systems.

As a Junior Data Scientist, you’ll join us at an exciting time in the development of the Insight and Intelligence team, following significant recent growth and maturity of our data analytics platform. In this role you’ll play a part in the evolution of our Business Lending value stream, while collaborating closely with all departments across the bank.

You’ll work on some interesting projects including contributing to defining product pricing and enhancing loan application decision-making through statistical modelling, machine learning, and generative AI. As our Business Lending portfolio expands, the demand for sophisticated analytics will continue to grow, creating a dynamic environment for continuous skill development and career progression.

What will you be doing?

You will:

Develop and deploy predictive models to drive an enhanced customer experience, through customer segmentation, behaviour modelling, and targeted communication. Improve Business Performance by optimising pricing, liquidity management, and risk mitigation. Deliver Strategic Impact: by providing critical analysis to support key strategic projects and initiatives. Develop and maintain regular reports that provide key insights into business performance while responding to ad hoc requests for analysis and insights to inform decision-making. Lead data-driven decision making through rigorous hypothesis testing, “what-if” scenarios and translating complex data analysis into clear actionable insights for key stakeholders. Champion a culture of data excellence by providing peer reviews and challenge to ensure the quality and rigour of data science work across the organisation. Ensure model performance and relevance by monitoring and maintaining live models to ensure they remain accurate and effective. Collaborate on the migration to our Tableau self-serve analytics platform.

What do we need from you?

Sound understanding of a statistical and machine learning modelling technique for the purpose of classification or regression problem solving. Including but not limited to support vector machines, neural networks, linear and logistic regression, decision trees, random forests. Experience of programming in Python and/or R. Proven ability to retrieve and process data from a variety of data sources, with basic understanding of a variant of SQL desirable. A good communicator - able to present analysis at all levels of the business, from non-technical stakeholders to I&I colleagues. A self-starter with excellent time management skills.
