About Our Assets Plans

We are preparing for our £3.6 billion investment programme that will run from 2025 to 2030, to make sure we increase the resilience of our water and wastewater services while enhancing and protecting our environment.

Our investment programme will see new roles join our Assets directorate to enhance and support our teams in tackling key industry challenges including population growth and the impact of climate change on our services.

About the role

We have several great opportunities for Project Managers to join our Capital Delivery and Integrated Design & Delivery Service (IDS) team. Our Capital Delivery and IDS teams are largely responsible for the Portfolio, Programme and Project Management of planned capital investment to our water and wastewater assets.

Reporting to a Programme Manager you will be part of a team of Project Managers taking responsibility for the supporting delivery team, ensuring alignment to realise the project’s outputs within regulatory timescales while also maximising any broader business benefits. 

You’ll own and lead projects through concept, definition, delivery, and handover.  You’ll need to consider planning optimisation and ongoing management and maintenance of the project plans throughout the lifecycle.  We’re looking for you to drive a culture of innovation and continuous improvement, demonstrating delivery of efficiency and utilisation of industry leading best practice. You’ll have a continual focus on achieving the relevant business outcome to best customer value.

You will be required to work closely with our Programme Management Office and comply with investment procedures, project governance, benefits tracking, proactive risk management, and change management.

We’re looking for you to deliver unrivalled customer experience to both internal and external customers, demonstrating effective measurement, monitoring, and reporting.   You’ll be managing stakeholder relationships while ensuring stakeholders are well-informed and aligned to the project, broader programme and NWL’s business outcomes, while in turn working to enhance NWL’s reputation in the area.  You’ll work closely with stakeholders from across the business, from our Procurement team to assist you in securing necessary contractors & suppliers, to our front-line operations teams who will be your main internal customer.

Safety in construction is imperative, you’ll ensure your team and supply partner activities align to company quality standards, satisfying relevant legislative and regulatory requirements to ensure everyone goes home safe every day.  You’ll also work closely with our internal Engineering team ensuring projects are designed for success and deliverable, along with constant application of Construction Design Management regulations.

About you

We’re looking for the successful candidate to have the potential to or proven experience of working in Portfolio, Programme and Project Management environment and ideally having a desire or experience of leadership of internal and external multi-disciplinary teams delivering important capital investment projects, ideally in a construction environment. 

You’ll also have proven experience of (or a drive to learn) contract management along with procurement of services and applying appropriate engineering contracts for efficient delivery.  You’ll also need to understand project governance and forecasting and will thrive on driving innovation and have a passion for sustainable environmental outcomes.

You’ll have a desire to develop or have proven experience of industry standard project management techniques, ideally holding, or working towards a project management qualification. 

 You’ll be able to demonstrate sound and extensive engineering, project management delivery and will be willing to support the achievement of industry leading project management.

We’re looking for you to show the potential or have the proven ability to engage and communicate persuasively with a broad range of stakeholders across a variety of business levels, so strong influencing ability within the programme and project environment is needed. You will be able to establish credibility quickly.

You’ll also be working towards or have a knowledge of commercial assurance, engineering contract management and different contract forms that can be used, along with an in-depth knowledge of CDM and site supervision requirements.

You’ll have a desire to develop or have proven experience of industry standard project management techniques, ideally holding, or working towards a project management qualification. This role has also been defined as a safety or security critical role and as a condition of a formal offer of employment you’ll be required to undergo a drug and alcohol test. 

Prospective employees and agency workers in defined safety and security critical roles will be required to undertake a drug and alcohol test after the job offer has been made. This will be prior to or within four weeks of their start date. 

Prospective employees and agency workers who fail a pre-employment urine drug screen will have their sample analysed by the Company appointed laboratory as a matter of course. Failing a pre-employment drugs or alcohol test may lead to the job offer being revoked.
