Getting started in Digital Marketing with Tech Talent X

Tech Talent X offers people considering a job in tech, the opportunity to experience a hands-on introduction to what the tech sector has available. We offer work experience in a range of industries including digital marketing, esport, immersive tech, operations and software development. Last week, Alicia Gerez, Senior Marketing Executive, was joined by Oludayo Adekunle, Kike Aladebo, Laura Ramos and Ngozi Eikhenomian for 3 days of digital marketing. Ngozi said, “I was curious about what a job in digital marketing required and I wanted to develop the skills and confidence to apply for these roles.”

Alicia introduced the group to marketing strategies and the elements that go into launching a campaign. This work highlights the creative and analytic approach marketers need when analysing trends. The group were tasked with creating content that could be used to highlight the work that we do. To do they were shown how to use editing tools like ‘CapCut’ and ‘Canva’ to create flyers and videos, skills essential in a digital marketing career. Oludayo commented, “Before this week, I used to think videos were recorded all at once. Now I know how to use the tools that are available for marketing”.

During this time of the year, our marketing team are busy creating festive content to reflect the excitement of the holiday season and excitement in the office. A highlight of this content is a Christmas video. Throughout the three days with us, the work experience group acted as a film crew, meeting several staff members across our sites in Sunderland Software Centre and PROTO. Everyone played a role in the film crew and was tasked with working together to help create an amazing video to end the year.

When asked about their time with us Kike shared, “I was able to develop my skills and creative process, such as creating something quickly. I finally tackled CapCut for the first time and found it amazing.” Oludayo said, “You have to get into this experience”, “you will be getting more than expected, this is a great introduction for anyone looking at a career in marketing”.
