Web Designer

Web Designers are responsible for the planning, creative, and production of websites including the design and layout.

A Web Designer will take responsibility for developing the design of a website including layout, required functionality, user interactions, and content layout. They may work internally or as part of an agency and could be responsible for either designing a full website or improving existing webpages. They’ll often work as part of a team to manage the overall branding of a business online and work closely with development and marketing colleagues depending on this employer.

As well as working with other design and development colleagues web designers are often closely connected to user research and use feedback from this to inform their designs.

Key skills

Web Designers need strong creative skills as well as the ability to communicate well and collaborative with internal and external teams. They may need to be work innovatively to create an engaging design and are often required to adapt to changing business and user needs.

The key technical skills required for these roles are web development skills as well as the ability to use a number of programmes to outline and demonstrate their designs.
