We sat down with James Beard, Chief Operating Officer (COO) at tombola, to discuss what this investment means for the region.

A large driver behind this expansion is an investment into its people, ensuring they hire first and work towards their goals second – a practice many companies often neglect.
Over the past few years, tombola has experienced tremendous growth. Since its acquisition by Flutter Entertainment in 2021, a FTSE 100 and globally recognised gaming company, the organisation has witnessed a remarkable surge in its success and development.
Speaking with COO James Beard, who has worked at tombola for more than six years, he believes tombola’s biggest asset is its people.
At tombola, we believe that innovation thrives when a diverse group of people with different backgrounds and ideas collaborate. When someone enters the business, we don’t want them to feel stagnant or pigeonholed. In fact, we actively encourage colleagues to upskill and try different roles across the organisation.
A big part of this involves collaborative work, meaning you can shadow all areas of the business if you wish to do so. Because of this, we have seen a vast development in progression across the organisation, with many colleagues joining us as junior programmers and becoming senior developers in a couple of years.”
