Testers are responsible for conducting tests on software and applications produced by developers to ensure it is secure and functional before it becomes available to end users.
A Tester will use a combination of manual and automated tests to allow them to find and bugs and issues within the code produced by developers. They’ll also carry out stress and performance testing on the code as well as testing in multiple environments (such as web and mobile) to ensure applications accessed by end users are working as expected. In addition to finding these weaknesses a Tester will also write bug reports as well as being involved in reviewing documentation.
In addition to this Testers will work alongside software developers and project managers to identify business requirements and provide ongoing monitoring of applications and software.
Testers need to have strong analytical and problem solving skills as well as an excellent attention to detail to look the source of errors and bugs in complex applications. A strong understanding of software development as well as the ability to adapt to changing requirements are also key to success in this role.
The technical knowledge need for a Tester will include an understanding of software development practices and languages as well as an understanding of automation.
